a night in north beach

this evening in san francisco, here where columbus meets kearny

sondra alexander, textile designer, mother, bubbie, friend
was one of the san franciscans featured as guests
as part of the series 'talk show live'

and her husband, jacob alexander, the king of golden gate park,
majestic, wearing his own design of tunic and cap,
listening to the jazz combo

which featured jules broussard blowing jazz with soul;
all this at the legendary purple onion.

it was a lovely evening- mark and bubbie say goodnight

we head up the stairs from the speakeasy to the street

and we head for home, with one last backward glance at
the glorious, notorious san francisco flatiron-
the sentinel building

strike three

view from the family birth center 21 feb 2008

we were in our february staff meeting when someone looked away from
the power-point deck and exclaimed 'look out the window at the rainbow!'
and someone else said 'who's got a camera?' and i nearly always do.

the RNs here are voting this week on whether or not to go out on strike again; this will be
the third strike since october. each walk-out is a little longer and a lot tougher.

i really can't even put into words, at this moment, how incredibly difficult this is.

but let's just say:
it ain't exactly sunshine, rainbows and blue skies.

deadheads to the headlands

three heads at the headlands trailhead

scarlet, flan and rose between the worlds,
out where the tectonic plates collide-
here, where the pacific plate crashes up against the north american,
we're off the edge, through the mist and fog, and on the other side.
